Ques. I have done B. Tech. can I directly enter into the Ph.D. program?
Ans. Yes, B. Tech. students having a valid Gate Score can enter into the Department's Ph.D. program. All the students entering into Ph.D. program directly after B.Tech. are required to undergo a course work for the first year of their doctoral program.
Ques. I have done M. Tech. do I also need to have a valid GATE score?
Ans. For M. Tech. (or equivalently qualified candidates) do not need GATE score as an eligibility requirement for applying for Ph.D. program.
Ques. What is the procedure for selection?
Ans. The present selection procedure is that based on the applications recieved, shortlisted candidates are called for written test and/or interview at the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Indore. The candidates are encouraged to interact with faculty members of the Discipline for deciding their field of interest. Then if you are through with the written test and subsequently interviews, you will be selected and if approved will be offered a Ph.D. position under the Department.
Ques. What would be the course for the written test/interview?
Ans. Stop worrying about the course, just brush up your basics before appearing for the interview. You should be strong in your fundamentals in topics related to your chosen area of research.
Ques. What are the different funding options available for doing Ph.D.?
Ans. There are many different funding options available viz. TA (teaching assistantship) provided by the MHRD, FA catagory (for Industry/external sponsored candidates), MS category (For personnels belonging to Ministry of Defense), RA (research assistantship, as JRF/SRF), available with faculties having externally sponsored projects.
Ques. Aren't the career options narrowed down after Ph.D.?
Ans. Well in terms of spectrum of jobs available to you the options are narrowed down as you do Ph.D. compared to the variety of jobs that were available for you when you finished your B.Tech. (but remember those are all entry level jobs). However, it is also true that Ph.D. opens some totally new avenues and makes you more focused in your approach. In the end it is best left to your interest. If academics interest you, you like to be confronted with new challenges on a daily basis. If you have the passion for exploring new horizons. And most of all if you have a genuine love for science and technology, then Ph.D. is the right choice for you.
Ques. Does SOP matter?
Ans. Yes it does. It reflects the clarity of your thoughts. Moreover, it is also an indicator of your ability to write and comprehend things. So please be careful while writing your statement of purpose.
